Central to this plan is a Request for Proposals (RFP) to develop between one and four gigawatts of new nuclear capacity in the United States, with a target of operational readiness by the early 2030s​. Through partnerships with Energy Northwest in Washington state and Dominion Energy in Virginia, Amazon is advancing the development of SMRs to bring clean, carbon-free energy to the grid [2].

These projects are expected to yield substantial benefits. The proposed SMR near Dominion’s North Anna nuclear power station in Virginia is anticipated to generate at least 300 megawatts of new energy, while the collaborations with Energy Northwest are projected to enhance the availability of clean power across the region. Beyond their environmental impact, these initiatives will also drive economic growth, with up to 1,000 temporary construction jobs and more than 100 permanent roles created per project.
